We Need Office Space

We have, for eighteen years, run CASSA’s office from the home of our president. She will be moving this spring and we most certainly need a space to run the office. If you have, or know someone who has office space that CASSA can rent for a reasonable fee, please contact us.

Changes in Camp Dates for 2012

Camp dates for 2012 have changed from 2011 and are not at the same times they have been in past years. Please note the new dates.

2012 Volunteer Opportunity

The Calgary Arts Summer School Association is looking for a volunteer board member who has a Public Relations background and marketing experience.

Help is needed with promotion, event planning, sponsorship development, and grant writing. Charity experience is a bonus, but is not required.

Please call Linda Kundert-Stoll, CASSA President & Artistic Director at 403-271-0418, or email her at cassa1@telus.net to discuss possibilities. The Board meets four mornings a year, and the next meeting is on Thursday, December 15, 2011, 9:15 am at the CASSA office in Parkland.

Lost and Found

We had fewer items left after camps this year but there were still some things that parents and participants may want back. Check the list.

Four students, Christopher Berner, Krystal Bourassa, Sappho Hansen Smythe, Nicole May completed two one-credit courses; one for E-Learning and the other for Leadership Skills.

David Dixon Named Honens ProAm Competition Champion

David Dixon
On Saturday 15 October 2011, four amateur pianists took centre stage at Theatre Junction GRAND to perform a 15-minute recital in support of the Seventh Honens International Piano Competition. Honens is extraordinarily proud of ProAm pianists David Dixon, Colin Edie, Andrew Hoffmanns and Daniel Yang who gave remarkable performances and raised more than $100,000. The ProAm Champion is David Dixon, a reservoir engineer with Nexen Inc. David also won the Audience Choice Prize and Daniel Yang, a reservoir specialist with Canadian Natural Resources Limited, won the prize for Top Fundraiser.

“‘I was diddling around on the piano before I had any official lessons,’ David said. Formal piano lessons began at the age of eight, under the tutelage of his mother.” Read the entire interview with David following the Honens competition.

David Dixon is a former CASSA camper.

CASSA Music in the Meadows Fundraiser Update from March 26

By all accounts, Music in the Meadows was a scintillating evening of socializing, concert presentations and bidding on donated items. We were able to raise $10 000 toward our goal of $80 000. Thank you to all who participated and to all who donated to help our fundraiser. Please make note of the commercial enterprises who helped our cause and support them if you you need a product or service that they provide.

Action Coach International

Action Coach International has been working with CASSA. Action Coach Cheryl Dyck has taken special interest in our organization and has been a great help in directing us to meet our goals. We were pleased to find out that in Las Vegas at the end of January during the Action Coach’s convention, Cheryl was awarded Best Coach of the Year for all of the ActionCOACH coaches across all of the Americas. That is an impressive award! We are their "Coaching for a Cause" charity of choice for two years running.
