August 5th Concert Followup:
Dr. Bryanskaya and Joseph Fridman presented a superb concert of piano solos and duets to a large and appreciative audience! Those who came were treated to a wonderful evening of exciting and dynamic piano playing. If you weren’t there, too bad! You missed one of the best concerts this year.

‘Cellist at Jazz Connection: Talk and recital Wednesday, August 11
Andrea Case, a classical cellist from Calgary, spent three months in New York City studying jazz, improvised music, and alternate uses of the cello. Come and hear her speak about how expanding her ear has expanded her outlook on what an instrument can do outside of conventional boundaries! You will hear wonderful examples of wild, weird and wonderful styles of playing which use the cello in many different genres. Andrea will share her newly acquired perspectives on how exploring new techniques can improve your playing and improvisation skills.
Presentation is at noon on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, during Jazz Connection at Bishop Carroll High School. It is free and open to the public.
CASSA Camper to Receive Award from the Pawlicki Foundation
The Pawlicki Foundation has awarded a prize to Shelley Foo who volunteered for CASSA last summer and will present the award to Ms. Foo at the August 4 CASS Recital.
Concert featuring CASSA students June 16 2010
On Wednesday, June 16 the ProArts@Noon Concert Series will feature two classical piano students from CASSA who will each perform a short concert: David Dixon and Garrett Krause. Consider joining us!
12:10 - 12:50 pm - Concerts are free but donations are always welcome.
Concert is at 7th Avenue and First St. SE across from Olympic Plaza, next to the LRT Station.
The Calgary Arts Summer School Association (CASSA) seeks to provide an all-inclusive performing, literary and visual arts experience to individuals of all ages and levels.
IIYM International Piano Competition Preliminary Round Results
We were pleased to see that Quinn Gomez, attendee at Piano Camp for several years, was listed as a semi-finalist in the International Institute for Young Musicians competition.
Dear IIYM International PIano Competition entrant: Thanks for entering the 2010 IIYM competition. CASSA Members Involved in Olympics
CASSA Camp Technician Jeffery Riddel is a board member with Special Olympics Alberta.

Creative Aging Calgary

CASSA Board members wish to thank The ProArts Society for donating $100 to CASSA. Pro Arts invites the public every Wednesday at lunch for a moment of respite from the day with free concerts featuring a wide variety of performers. Admission is by donation.
Casino
Our next casino will be held in July, August or September of 2010. We will be looking for volunteers to assist with this fundraiser. Please remember that money from this and other fund-raising projects helps reduce the cost of the CASSA camps to families by about 50%. CASSA thanks the volunteers who helped at the January 2009 casino.
Pro Arts Concert
Judy Heninger, Sharon Fast and Alison Crabb performed a recital together at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer (across the street from Olympic Plaza) on May 27. They played works by Bach, Barber, Beethoven and Schubert. These three performers are either former CASSA Campers or are connected in other ways to CASSA summer camps.
