Engaging the Whole Musician: A Model Approach to Teaching Harmony

The whole musician listens, performs and creates. In the ideal world, these are three inseparable activities of the same artist. Each of these activities constantly enriches the others. The long term repercussions of accessing and engaging all aspects of our students’ musical personalities are incalculable.

This workshop will lead participants through some specific creative exercises, musical and otherwise. These exercises will illustrate how approaching the standard Harmony curriculum through simple creative compositional exercises contributes tremendously to the emergence of the whole musician.
